ACTIVITIES IN MANALI
Manali is the gateway to numerous adventurous activities and it offers a wide range of activities such as Trekking, Paragliding, Skiing, Rafting, Mountaineering It is also an ideal place for a quiet, relaxed holiday. The entire region is a paradise for both the adventure lovers and those seeking a memorable holiday. The opportunities are endless for those wanting a great time of adventure in Himalayas.
The love of nature & the pursuit of the unknown have eternally drawn man to shed the comfort and security of this home to venture beyond the blue ranges on the horizon and to discover new valleys, forests, rivers and high mountains. The quest of mountain lover is for the freedom of the hills, to be at home in the high wilderness, with no barriers he cannot pass, no danger he cannot avoid with due caution and proper knowledge. This is the essence of enjoyment sought by the trekker and the climber.
Paragliding is organized in Kullu valley throughout the year at Solang Valley, located 14 kms from Manali and other locations like Marhi, Fatru, Bijli Mahadev etc. There are generally two kind of flights :
1. Short flights : The client is taken 100 - 150 mts up the slope and takes a flight along with the pilot in the two seater paraglider. The flight lasts for approximately 60 - 90 seconds.
2. High flying : Approximately 20-30 minutes flight and arranged at Fatru, Kothi and Bijli Mahadev. Mainly for experienced pilots who have done short flights.
Skiing in Manali can be organized at Solang Valley, located 14 Kms from Manali from January & February and at Dhundi, Gulaba, Marhi or Rohtang from March to to mid June depending upon snow condition. The clients would be required to have warm clothes, gloves, woolen caps and sun glasses. They should be fit enough to carry the ski equipment (minimum 8 kgs) up the slope to the skiing point. Skiing as a fun activity can be done for a day.
Himachal Pradesh’s snow-fed rivers offer tremendous opportunities for the challenging sport of rafting. The rivers Chandrabhaga (Chenab) in Lahaul, the Satluj near Shimla, the Ravi near Chamba and the Beas near Kullu offer immense whitewater rafting possibilities. There are tremendous river running expedition opportunities between Shamshi and Aut on the Beas. The 20-km stretch has exciting and extreme whitewater rapids. Have a fun filled skiing holidays in the valley of Solang Nallah, which is friendly and picturesque settlement 13 Kms beyond Manali, H.P. The snow slopes around here are a great attraction for skiers and a venue for many skiing competitions.
Mountaineering in the Manali region of the Indian Himalaya. Manali has
excellent touring potential, with numerous opportunities for amateurs.-Manali,
with its mountaineering institute, is a popular base for trekking and
mountaineering in summer and skiing in winter. Interesting routes into the
surrounding valleys, over the high passes, are provided with tourist huts and
rest houses for trekking enthusiasts.
